Q: Can you tell me more about your work experiences?

A: I worked for 12 years at Pine Rest working with children and families dealing with conflict, ADHD, parenting skills, ODD, anxiety, and depression.

Q: What areas of counseling are you passionate about?

A: Working with teenagers, and young adults and helping them recognize what their goals are in life and how to overcome barriers to achieving their goals.  I also enjoy working with parents and helping them learn new skills that enable them to have more fun in parenting and enjoy their kids.

Q: What have you learned from working with kids and families?

A: How resilient families can be. I learned that it is important to meet kids and their families where they are at in life, respecting their family’s values and culture. Working with kids I have learned that kids will sometimes use maladaptive coping skills in order to get their needs met, which can get them into trouble.  My role is to help kids and parents recognize this and teach new skills that help kids feel successful.

Q: You have had many years of experience working with kids and families have you had any special training?

A: Yes, I am trained in PMTO which goes back to the basics of parenting, giving directions, not buying into the arguments, etc. I also have taught Love and Logic Parenting Skills for the past 6 years, which teaches parents how to avoid power struggles or arguments and puts the fun back in parenting.

Q: What drew you to this profession?

A: Because of life experiences I learned the importance of the professional support of counseling and advocacy.

Q: What do you think is important for someone to know if they are considering seeing you for counseling?

A: I see my role as a partnership where I walk along side of you. I truly believe that you are the expert in your own life.  It is my hope that through our therapeutic relationship that solutions are found to allow you to have a happier, more fulfilling life.
